Archaeology sparks a great deal of interest in society. Join us behind the scenes of the Northern Trans-Pennine project in Cumbria, one of our biggest infrastructure projects to date🚗! In this video we explain the practical elements of excavating archaeological features and highlight the amazing team who are uncovering the archaeology on the A66.

You will meet Abby, one of our graduate trainees, as she learns how to identify🔎, excavate⛏️ and record🧾archaeological features. Her mentor, and fellow archaeologist Aiden, explains why we half-section features and what it can show us, as well as why we take soil samples during excavations. We also explore how the data we collect can help us understand the story of past landscapes all while helping to train the next generation of archaeologists!
